What is a Pilot lens?

A pilot lens is a progressive lens with an extra close-up vision area on the top of the lens!

Who might want to wear a Pilot lens?

Anyone who needs to look up and read or see close-up objects. Pilots (as the name of the lens suggests!), electricians, warehouse workers, window washers, maybe even optometrists…

How does it work?

Most of the lens works the same way as a normal progressive lens. The Pilot lens has a normal distance zone, which gradually changes or “progresses” first into the intermediate zone, and then the reading zone. The difference is in what happens above the distance zone. At the top of the lens is a second close-up vision zone. Unlike the reading zone at the bottom of the lens, this close-up zone is not reached gradually. There is a sharp change from distance to close-up.

Can I get sunglasses in a Pilot lens?

Absolutely! The Pilot lens is available in grey, brown, and green in polarized sunglasses, and in all colours as a tinted lens.
